The city of Salem, Massachusetts is located approximately 14 miles north east of Boston. Salem has a population of 40,407 and a total area of 18.1 square miles. Salem was one of the most important seaports in Colonial America and is knicknamed “The Witch City” because of the famous Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Salem is part of Essex County.
