February 20, 2012 – Christopher Stanley, 28, of Clarksburg, Massachusetts, and Chad Miller, 31, from North Adams, have died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained in a single car crash. Stanley was operating an SUV, which was discovered by police overturned at the bottom of a flood control chute along Canal Street in North Adams. Miller was a passenger in the vehicle. The car was discovered at approximately 2:42 a.m. on Sunday.

According to police, the vehicle was heading west on Canal Street prior to the accident, but are unsure what caused the crash or how long the vehicle was in the flood chute before it was discovered. According to the Hoosic River Revival Coalition, typical flood chutes in the town are 12 feet deep and 45 feet wide.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. The North Adams Fire Department and North Adams Ambulance Service were among the responding rescue personnel. The accident remains under investigation by the North Adams Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police.

January 29, 2012 – Andrew McCann, 17, from New Bedford, Massachusetts, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained as a passenger in a single car accident. Julian Reis, 19, was driving the vehicle and Jarrell Ervin was another passenger. According to police, Reis lost control of the vehicle and rolled it over onto the median near exit 4 on Route 140 northbound in New Bedford. McCann was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The accident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.

All three men were students at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, where McCann starred in football and baseball. McCann was transported to a hospital, where he later died. Both Reis and Ervin were treated at Rhode Island Hospital and released with minor injuries.

No charges have been filed against Reis at this time. The accident remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.

January 13, 2011 – Chelsi Varney, 18, from Yarmouth, Massachusetts, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained when she was struck by a minivan. Brian Gardiner, also of Yarmouth, was operating the vehicle eastbound on Buck Island Road prior to striking Varney, who was walking northbound on West Yarmouth Road. The accident occurred at around 6:15 p.m. on Monday.

Yarmouth emergency medical personnel treated Varney at the scene. She was then transported by a medical helicopter to Boston Medical Center, where she eventually died. Varney was a senior at Dennis-Yarmouth High School, where she excelled academically.

No charges have been filed against Gardiner and the accident remains under investigation by the Yarmouth Police Department.

December 23, 2011 – Elena Fedoseev, 49, from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained in head on collision. Levi Alves, 48, of Marlborough, was driving the other vehicle and was also injured. The accident occurred at around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday on Main Street in Shrewsbury.

According to the Shrewsbury Police Department, Fedoseev’s vehicle crossed the center line and collided head on with Alves’ truck. Fedoseev was transported by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where she was pronounced dead. Alves was also taken to UMass and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

This accident was one of three that occurred along a one mile stretch of Main Street on Wednesday night. The Shrewsbury Fire Department and EMS assisted at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.

December 14, 2011 – Robert Kaczor, 63, of Blackstone, Massachusetts, had died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained in a head on car crash. Joshua Campos, 20, from Woonsocket, Rhode Island, allegedly lost control of his vehicle and collided head on with Kaczor’s car. The accident occurred on South Main Street in Bellingham on Monday at around 5:00 p.m.

Kaczor was taken by ambulance to Milford Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead later that evening. Campos was transported by medical helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where he is being treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are unsure if speed or alcohol were factors and the accident remains under investigation by the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Reconstruction Team. The Franklin Police Department and Mendon Police Department assisted at the scene.

October 28, 2011 – Gwen Pearsall, 49, of Deering, New Hampshire, and Arlene Krilovich, 66, of Hillsborough, New Hampshire, have died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident. The accident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. Friday Morning along Interstate 91 Northbound near Exit 19 in Northampton, Massachusetts.

Both women were pronounced dead at the scene. According to a witness, the women were driving a pickup truck and allegedly lost control of the vehicle after passing him. The truck then traveled into the left side guardrail and then flipped end-over-end.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, the roads were icy at the time of the crash and the conditions as well as speed were contributing factors to the crash. The accident remains under investigation.

October 12, 2011 – Andres Guzman, 18, and Joel Rodriguez, 19, both from Worcester, Massachusetts, have died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained when Guzman’s parked car was struck by another vehicle. Jesus Molina, 19, also of Worcester and a passenger in Guzman’s vehicle, was seriously injured. Robert Curran, 22, from Grafton, was operating the vehicle that crashed into Guzman’s car. The accident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Guzman’s car was parked at the corner of Chandler and Piedmont Streets when Curran’s vehicle allegedly smashed into it. Witnesses claim that Curran’s car was traveling between 80 and 100 miles per hour.

According to police, Guzman and Rodriguez were pronounced dead at the scene. Molina was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where he remains in critical condition. Curran was also injured in the crash and was first taken to Harrington Healthcare at Hubbard in Webster and then transferred to UMass Memorial.

September 20, 2011 – Joseph LeBlanc, 27, from Lynn, Massachusetts has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained in a car accident. LeBlanc was traveling north on Interstate 93 when a 400 pound tire, which was strapped to the back of a flatbed tractor trailer, came loose, flew through the air and landed on LeBlanc’s vehicle. The accident occurred at around 2:45 p.m. on Monday in Somerville.

Gregory Ross, 62, from Merrimack, New Hampshire was driving the truck, which was leased by Sullivan Tire. According to the Massachusetts State Police, the truck had four tires strapped loosely to wooden pallets on its bed. The accident allegedly occurred after one of the pallets broke and the strap became loose sending the tire flying through the air. Witnesses claim they saw the tire travel approximately 30 feet before impacting LeBlanc’s vehicle.

The police stated that after the tire hit, LeBlanc lost control of the vehicle and ended up between the guardrails separating the opposite lanes. LeBlanc was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

September 19, 2011 – Michael Joyce, 29, from Stoneham, Massachusetts, and Karina O’Donnell, 23, of Merrimac, have died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained in a single car accident along Interstate 93 in Salem, New Hampshire. According to the New Hampshire State Police, Joyce was operating a pickup truck, which collided with a tree near the Salem rest stop shortly before midnight on Friday night.

Police also stated that Joyce was traveling north on Route 93 when his truck traveled through beginning of the off ramp and into the rest area, where it continued into the woods striking a tree. Both Joyce and O’Donnell were pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation, but Police believe speed was a factor.

September 9, 2011 – Mark McMullen, 44, from Boston, Massachusetts, was fatally shot by police officers after leading them on a 20 mile high speed chase. The pursuit began in Roxbury after police witnessed McMullen’s car strike a woman, who turned out to suffer only minor injuries. Boston Police officers immediately pursued McMullen and were later joined by the Massachusetts State Police. The chase continued down Interstate 93 South and onto Route 3 South.

McMullen eventually exited the highway at exit 14 near Route 228 in Rockland. While still on the exit ramp McMullen continued to evade capture and caused his vehicle to strke two police cruisers. Police officers then allegedly fired three shots at McMullen resulting in his death.

A state trooper, who’s car was struck head on by McMullen, was taken to South Shore Hospital and treated for his injuries. Two other officers also received medical treatment. The Rockland Police Department assisted at the scene, but were not involved in the chase.
