February 8, 2011 – Christopher J. Ward, 19, of Woburn, Massachusetts, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained when his car veered off of an overpass and fell 30 to 40 feet onto Route 28. Lawrence J. Capriotti, 31, from Somerville, was driving a car that collided with Ward’s vehicle as it hit the road below the overpass. The accident occurred at around 12:50 a.m. on Sunday along Interstate 93 in Somerville.
Ward was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Capriotti fled the scene after the accident, but returned an hour later. According to the Massachusetts State Police, Capriotti was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury and leaving the scene of the accident causing property damage.
Ward graduated from Woburn Memorial High School last year where he was a standout athlete. He planned on joining the Navy in the spring. It is unclear what caused Ward to lose control of his vehicle prior to veering off of the overpass and the accident remains under investigation.
