April 15, 2010 – A Tufts University student suffered serious personal injuries when he was struck by a vehicle as he was attempting to cross an intersection in Medford, Massachusetts. The accident occurred when the driver was trying to make a right turn from Boston Avenue onto College Avenue at around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday. The Medford Police Department and Tufts University Police Department responded to the scene.

 

The student was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was treated for a broken jaw and ankle. The driver was apparently not injured during the accident.
According to the Tufts Police, the driver was a resident of Medford and was not affiliated with the school. Neither police department has released the identities of the driver or the student.
The busyness of the intersection is the likely cause of the collision, but police have not stated an official reason. The accident remains under investigation.

January 25, 2010 – Paula Domenico, 39, from Abington, Massachusetts, suffered severe personal injuries when she was struck by an unmarked Massachusetts State Police cruiser while she was jogging in Weymouth. The unidentified State Police lieutenant was traveling north on Route 18 when his cruiser collided with Domenico at the intersection of Route 58. The accident occurred at around 2:26 p.m. on Friday.

Domenico was taken to South Shore Hospital, where she is recovering from her injuries. According to the Weymouth Police, the lieutenant’s vision may have been obstructed by a bus traveling in the adjacent lane. The lieutenant was apparently driving to work to begin a shift at the South Boston State Police barracks.

The accident remains under investigation.

January 22, 2010 – Jason Camara, 23, from New Bedford, Massachusetts, was driving a Honda Accord that struck a 19 year old New Bedford woman who was hit in the crosswalk at Brock Avenue and Rodney French Boulevard. The woman suffered serious personal injuries when her head struck the windshield of Camara’s vehicle. The accident occurred at around 6:45 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The woman was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital and later transferred by medical helicopter to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition Friday morning. According to the New Bedford Police Department, Camara had a green light and was apparently driving the speed limit. Camara told police that he did not see the woman prior to striking her with his car and she was wearing headphones. Apparently, Camara remained at the scene, tried to assist the woman, and cooperated with police.

Camara received a citation for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The accident remains under investigation by the New Bedford Police Department.

December 2, 2009 – Anderson Cadell, Jr., 33, an environmental cleanup worker from Seabrook, New Hampshire, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained when he was struck by a car on Route 3 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Salvatore Pintone, 30 of Lynnfield, was working alongside Cadell and was seriously injured. Juanita McKenzie, 33 of Lowell, was driving her 2001 Acura MDX partially in the break down lane when she struck the two men, pinning them between her SUV and their truck. The accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Soon after the initial collision, a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by George Patterson, 61 of Chelmsford, smashed into the back of the Acura and slid across the highway. Patterson and his dog were treated for minor injuries.

Cadell and Pintone were part of an environmental cleanup crew directed by United Oil Recovery Inc., which was cleaning an oil spill from an accident on Route 3 last week. Cadell was an employee of United Oil for the past seven years, but Pintone did not work for the company.

November 19, 2009 – Kelvin Savanhmixay, 12 years old, suffered serious personal injuries when he was hit by a car that was apparently drag racing in Lowell, Massachusetts on Wednesday. Two cars were allegedly racing on the VFW Parkway near the University of Massachusetts-Lowell campus. One of the cars struck Savanhmixay as he was standing in the crosswalk at Mammoth Road at around 2 p.m.

Thursday, the Lowell Police have found a dark blue Acura RSX, one of the cars they believe was involved in the accident. The Acura was found in Methuen and had visible damage to the front bumper and a broken windshield on the driver’s side.

According to witnesses, a black car and blue car were racing eastbound on the VFW Parkway on Wednesday afternoon. The blue car struck Savanhmixay as it was allegedly trying to pass the black car on the left. The police stated that the driver of the blue car drove off. The driver of the black car stopped, exited the car and spoke with someone briefly at the scene before fleeing as well.

Savanhmixay was taken to Children’s Hospital in Boston and was treated for serious injuries. He remains in intensive care but is expected to survive. The accident is still under investigation by the Lowell Police Department.

August 30, 2009 – Daoyin Fang, 83, a resident of Watertown, Massachusetts was struck by a van and killed while crossing Mt. Auburn Street at the intersection of Adams Street on Thursday morning. According to Watertown police, the Honda Odyssey van was being driven by a 51-year old woman, a resident of Belmont, Massachusetts, who has not been charged as of this date, and whose name has not been released.

Fang, who had suffered head injuries from the accident, was taken to Mt. Auburn Hospital and thereafter pronounced dead. Watertown Police and the Massachusetts State Police are investigating the accident, Information has not been released disclosing whether Fang was in a crosswalk at the time of the accident.

August 27, 2009 – Alessandra Castner, 15 from Marblehead, Massachusetts, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained when she was struck by a car. A Volvo, driven by an unidentified man, hit Castner when she was at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Mohawk Road in Marblehead on Monday.

Castner was first taken to Salem Hospital and then later transferred by a medical helicopter to Boston Medical Center, where she unfortunately died.

Castner would have been a sophomore at Marblehead High School.  Naturally, the entire community is devastated.  A memorial has been set up near the crash site and a vigil was held on Tuesday.

The exact cause of the crash is unclear at this time and the accident remains under investigation by the Marblehead Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.

August 25, 2009 – John-James Venner, 7, from Chester, New Hampshire, died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained when he was hit by a pick up truck while walking down a road. The driver of the truck was Brian Medico, 49, from Brockton, Massachusetts. The accident occurred on Saturday along Route 102, a two lane state highway.

Venner, his 10 year old brother and an 11 year old friend were walking in the breakdown lane of Route 102 when Venner was hit. Venner was thrown approximately 25 feet from the roadway onto a neighbor’s lawn. The boy’s shoe and backpack were thrown even farther up the road.

Many neighbors and bystanders rushed to the boy’s aid and rescue crews tried to revive the boy. Venner was taken by ambulance to Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH, where he was pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed against Medico. The accident remains under investigation by New Hampshire State Police.

August 17, 2009 – Sylvester “El” Gethers, 64, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, has died as the result of  personal injuries suffered in a pedestrian car accident early Saturday morning. Gethers was  walking on Morton Street in the Mattapan section of the city around 6 a.m. when a 1998 Honda Prelude driven by Paul Edouard, age 20, jumped a curb up onto the sidewalk and struck Gethers, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Gethers a construction worker, who was going to meet his brother at the Dunkin Donuts just steps from where the accident occured, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Carney Hospital in Dorchester for treatment. He was later pronounced dead. There was no information as to whether Edouard was injured in the accident or whether he will face criminal charges as the result of the accident, which remains under investigation by State Police.

July 28, 2009 – Kimberly McGinley, 32 years old from Dedham, Massachusetts, has died as a result serious personal injuries sustained when she was hit by a car in Somerville. The car was driven by Zeggai S. Malu, 71 from Somerville. The accident occurred at approximately 3:30 PM on Sunday.

McGinley was walking on the sidewalk with a two year old Roslindale child when Malu’s Nissan Pathfinder jumped the curb and struck them. McGinley and the child were headed to a party for McGinley’s 6 year old daughter on Munroe Street in Somerville. According to witnesses, McGinley saw the car coming and courageously pushed several children out of harm’s way.

McGinley was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital and passed away late Monday night. The child has yet to be indentified and remains hospitalized but is in stable condition. It appears that McGinley and the child knew one another but were not related.
