January 25, 2016: Queshon Ivy, 43 years old, has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained, after a vehicle driven by Melissa L. Benedict, 34, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, struck him as he was crossing the street on the way to work. The accident occurred early Wednesday Morning on January 15, at around 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Washington and Harvard Street in Dorchester.
According to Boston Police, Ivy was crossing the street to get to his job site, when Benedict struck him. Ivy was pronounced dead at the scene. Benedict fled the scene, but was apprehended 20 minutes later on Morten Street, 1 ½ miles away from the accident. According to Police, Benedict was driving a VHS Transportation van, but was not on the clock at the time. Benedict told police that she was adjusting the heat and lowering the sun visor, just before the collision occurred.
Benedict was freed on $1,000 bail and had to surrender her driver’s license. She is facing charges of motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene after causing personal injury and death.
