August 25, 2009 – John-James Venner, 7, from Chester, New Hampshire, died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained when he was hit by a pick up truck while walking down a road. The driver of the truck was Brian Medico, 49, from Brockton, Massachusetts. The accident occurred on Saturday along Route 102, a two lane state highway.

Venner, his 10 year old brother and an 11 year old friend were walking in the breakdown lane of Route 102 when Venner was hit. Venner was thrown approximately 25 feet from the roadway onto a neighbor’s lawn. The boy’s shoe and backpack were thrown even farther up the road.

Many neighbors and bystanders rushed to the boy’s aid and rescue crews tried to revive the boy. Venner was taken by ambulance to Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH, where he was pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed against Medico. The accident remains under investigation by New Hampshire State Police.

August 25, 2009 – A 6 year old boy from Cumberland, Rhode Island died as a result of serious personal injuries suffered in an auto accident that occurred in Charlton, Massachusetts in the westbound lanes of the Massachusetts Turnpike. Joseph E. Tollier, 30 also from Cumberland, was the boy’s father and was driving the car. The accident happened on Thursday, August 20th.

Apparently, the 1995 Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Tollier, blew a tire while traveling in the left lane causing the vehicle to swerve to the right. While trying to maintain control of the car, Tollier pulled the Lumina back into the left lane. At that point, the Lumina was struck in the left rear quarter panel by a Ford Escape, driven by Ronald Fleury, 67 of Peabody, Massachusetts.

Tollier was partially ejected from the vehicle and was seriously injured. Both Tollier and his son were taken to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. Tollier was taken by ambulance and his son was taken by a medical helicopter.

The crash remains under investigation by police.

August 20, 2009 – Aaron B. Shickman, 41 of Lowell, Massachusetts died after sustaining serious personal injuries when his bicycle was hit by an sport utility vehicle. The accident occurred on Wednesday near the intersection of Middlesex and Pawtucket Streets at 1:35 p.m.

Shickman was not wearing a helmet when his bike was hit by a 1999 Ford Explorer driven by an 18 year old Lowell woman. The man was transported by a medical helicopter to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.

This accident occurred just hours after Richard L. Campbell, 69, was hit by a car while riding his bike through Marshfield. Unfortunately, Campbell did not survive either.

The accident remains under investigation.

August 20, 2009 – Richard L. Campbell, 69 of Marshfield, Massachusetts, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained when he was hit by a car while riding his bike. The accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday on Dyke Road in Marshfield near the Green Harbor Yacht Club. The driver, who’s name has yet to be released, has been identified as a woman in her 20s.

Campbell was rushed from the scene to Massachusetts General Hospital on a medical helicopter. He was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

Police have confirmed that Campbell was not wearing a helmet and that he was struck in the middle of the road

The driver stopped and was talking to police after the accident. The car’s windshield was shattered and the bike was badly damaged.

The cause of the accident is unclear at this time and no criminal charges have been filed against the driver. The accident remains under investigation.

August 17, 2009 – Christopher Leonard, 17, of South Dennis, Massachusetts, has died as the result of injuries suffered in a roll-over car accident on Route 6 in West Barnstable, Massachusetts Saturday afternoon. Leonard was killed instantly when a Jeep Wrangler driven by his friend, Savannah Szwarc of Sandwich, Massachusetts, crashed in the westbound lane between Exit 5 and Exit 6.

The single car accident backed up traffic in both directions of Route 6 for miles. Leonard played football and baseball for Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. The accident is still under investigation. It is not known at this time whether either of the occupants was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

August 17, 2009 – Sylvester “El” Gethers, 64, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, has died as the result of  personal injuries suffered in a pedestrian car accident early Saturday morning. Gethers was  walking on Morton Street in the Mattapan section of the city around 6 a.m. when a 1998 Honda Prelude driven by Paul Edouard, age 20, jumped a curb up onto the sidewalk and struck Gethers, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Gethers a construction worker, who was going to meet his brother at the Dunkin Donuts just steps from where the accident occured, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Carney Hospital in Dorchester for treatment. He was later pronounced dead. There was no information as to whether Edouard was injured in the accident or whether he will face criminal charges as the result of the accident, which remains under investigation by State Police.

August 13, 2009 – Jonathan VanAllen, 24 from Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and Colm Higgans, 22 from Monterey, died from serious personal injuries sustained in an auto accident early this morning. Apparently at around 4 a.m. a 2006 BMW ran off of the road and collided with a tree. The accident occurred near the intersection of routes 7 and 20 in Lenox.

Both VanAllen and Higgans were pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear who was driving the vehicle and what caused the crash. The Lenox Police are investigating the accident.

August 13, 2009 – Adam Palmer, 22 from Mendon, Massachusetts, has died from personal injuries sustained in a car accident near exit 16 on Route 495 North in Wrentham. Palmer was a passenger in a car driven by Joseph M. Mele, 22 also from Mendon.

At around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Mele’s vehicle apparently collided with the guard rail causing the car to rollover into the median. Subsequent to the rollover, the car burst into flames. According the police, Palmer was trapped inside the vehicle and unfortunately passed away. Mele was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and treated for serious injuries.

The accident is still under investigation by the police.

August 8, 2009 – Jason Foster, 17, of Ipswich, Massachusetts, and Erin Leary, 16, of Norwell, Massachusetts, have died from personal injuries suffered in a car accident early Wednesday morning on Route 1 in Revere.

Three others, all teenagers, were also seriously injured, including Kelly Ann Barber, 19, of Weymouth, Massachusetts, who was driving the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero. The three were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment and all are expected to recover.

The group was traveling northbound near Copeland Circle in Revere when Barber lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over, struck the guard rail, and traveled across Route 1 before hitting a concrete barrier. Foster was the only occupant who was not wearing a seatbelt. It is not known at this time whether speed or alcohol were involved. The accident remains under investigation.

August 7, 2009 – Cynthia Bergeron, 38, of Hudson, is hospitalized as the result of personal injuries injuries suffered in a single car accident in Londonderry, NH yesterday. She was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center after she crashed her jeep into the woods and hit trees around 2:30 p.m. She was flown from the accident scene by helicopter to the hospital, and treated for a head wound.

She was listed in stable condition last night, according to the hospital.

The accident is still under investigation. However, preliminary statements, including those from witnesses at the scene, indicate that Bergeron may have been speeding and also impaired at the time of the accident.
