April 1 – Monica DeMello, 18, of Middleboro Massachusetts has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident with Kathleen Allen, 23, also of Middleboro. The accident occurred just after 2:00 a.m. on Saturday morning on Route 44, near Harding Street in Lakeville.

According to the Lakeville Police Department, DeMello was attempting to turn onto Route 22 when her automobile was struck by Allen’s vehicle. An unidentified passenger travelling in Allen’s vehicle was also injured, and was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital for treatment.

Allen has been charged with motor vehicle homicide, and driving while under the influence of alcohol. She appeared in Wareham District Court today for arraignment. The Massachusetts State Police, the Middleboro Police Department, and the Raynham Police Department are assisting with the ongoing investigation.

March 20, 2013 – Madison L. Davis, 21, of Northampton, Massachusetts, and John Hamel, 23 of Holyoke, sustained serious personal injuries in a head-on collision with another driver, Benjamin G. Cudler, 23, of West Hartford, Connecticut. The accident occurred on Pleasant Street in Northampton on Wednesday evening.

According to the Northampton Police Department, Davis was operating her vehicle southbound on Pleasant Street near the Holyoke Street intersection when her car crossed into oncoming traffic. The vehicle collided head-on with Cudler, who was not injured in the crash.

Davis and Hamel were transported by Northampton Fire Department ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts for treatment. The accident remains under investigation.

March 8, 2013 – Robert Leon, 47, of Andover, Massachusetts, has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained in a two-car accident on Sunday night. According to police, Leon was operating his vehicle on Route 125 in Wilmington, when he lost control of the car, entered the oncoming lane, and collided head-on with another automobile.

Leon was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency response personnel at approximately 8:30 p.m. The occupants of the other vehicle, an unidentified adult and child, were also injured in the accident. They were transported to Lawrence General Hospital for treatment.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Wilmington Police Department, the Andover Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

March 2, 2013 – Bill McDermott, 66, of Boston has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained when he was struck by an SUV, while attempting to cross William Day Boulevard near L Street in South Boston. The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. last Wednesday.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the driver of the vehicle, a 33 year-old man from South Boston, did not exhibit signs of intoxication at the time of the accident. The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash, but have not yet filed any charges.

McDermott was a renowned attorney, and a top adviser of U.S. Rep. Stephen F. Lynch. McDermott specialized in elections law, and had previously served as elections commissioner under former Mayor Kevin White. He had also represented state Representative Brian Wallace, a Democrat from South Boston.

February 11, 2013 – Ronald Bourque, 48, of Ashburnham, Massachusetts, sustained serious personal injuries after his 2003 Oldsmobile Alero collided with a tree on Winchendon Road in Ashburnham. The accident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on February 4, 2013.

Bourque, the only known occupant of the vehicle, was treated at the scene, and then transported to Heywood Hospital in Gardner.

The accident remains under investigation by the Ashburnham Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Police.

September 20, 2012 – Riley McManus, 21, and Dillon McManus, 21, twin brothers from Lynn, Massachusetts, have sustained serious personal injuries when they were struck by a vehicle. Angela Okenkwo, 36, also from Lynn, was operating a Hummer that collided with the brothers. The accident occurred at around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night, in front of the McManus’ home at 701 Boston Street in Lynn.

The Lynn Police Department responded to the scene and found both of the McManus brothers lying in the street. They were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

At this time, no charges have been filed against Okenkwo.

The accident remains under investigation by the Lynn Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police.

August 22, 2012 – Chad Kierstead, 19, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained in a single car accident in Kingston. An SUV crashed into utility pole, which caused it to flip over and continued into the nearby woods. It is unclear who was operating the vehicle, but Kierstead and three others were inside of the SUV. The accident occurred on Elm Street in Kingston at around 9:04 p.m. on Monday.

Kierstead was transported by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Tuesday morning. Another passenger was flown to Tufts Medical Center. The two remaining passengers were taken by ambulance to South Shore Hospital. All three passengers remain hospitalized, but their conditions are unknown.

Kierstead was a Petty Officer serving aboard the Coast Guard cutter Reliance, based in Kittery, Maine. He had joined the service in August, 2011.

To date, no charges have been filed and the accident remains under investigation by the Kingston Police Department.

August 8, 2012 – Axel Delgado, 26, of Malden, sustained serious personal injuries when the SUV he had operating rolled over after swerving to avoid another vehicle in the Tip O’Neil Tunnel in Boston. Fatima Terif, 29, from East Boston was operating the other car. A 4 year old Malden girl was partially ejected from Delgado’s SUV. Other passengers, including a 5 year old boy, were also injured. The accident occurred at around 12:20 a.m. on Sunday on Interstate 93 northbound, just past exit 23.

The girl and her mother, a 24 year old Malden woman who was also a passenger in Delgado’s SUV, were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital (“MGH”), where they both remain in critical condition. Delgado and the 5 year old boy, were treated and released from MGH. Delgado’s two other passengers, a 24 year old Dorchester man, 21 year old Dorchester woman, were taken to Tufts Medical Center and treated for non life threatening injuries.

Delgado was charged with operating with a suspended license and failing to properly restrain a child under eight years old. Terif was issued a civil citation for a marked lanes violation.

The accident remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.

June 19, 2012 – Vail Cerullo, 20, of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained while operating his motorcycle. According to the Massachusetts State Police, a truck, operated by an unidentified 18 year old Gloucester man, made an improper turn in front of Cerullo’s motorcycle. Cerullo then collided with the truck, fell to the ground, and was run over by an SUV. The accident occurred on the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge crossing from Boston to Cambridge at around 2:25 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

Cerullo was transported to Brigham & Women’s Hospital, where he later died. The truck driver was taken to Cambridge Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

No charges have been filed and the accident remains under investigation by the State Police. However, alcohol does not appear to have contribute to the crash.

June 13, 2012 – Luis Gonzalez, 33, of Springfield, Massachusetts, has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. The accident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Wilbraham Road and Parker Street in Springfield.

Gonzalez and another motorcyclist were traveling together when a car drove in front of them to turn into a pharmacy on Wilbraham Road. Both men went into a slide to avoid a collision.

Gonzalez was transported by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center, where he later died. The other man was not seriously injured.

No charges have been filed to date, and the accident remains under investigation.
