The city of Westfield, Massachusetts is located in the western part of the state about 12 miles west of Springfield. Westfield has a population of 40,072 and a total area of 47.3 square miles. Westfield is knicknamed “The Whip City” because during the 1800s it was one of the main producers of buggy whips. Westfield is part of Hampden County.
