October 5, 2015: Gina Burdick, 48, of Worcester, Massachusetts, has died as the result of serious personal injuries when a vehicle driven by Daniel Depew, 29, of Ayer, Massachusetts, struck her from behind. Her brother, George Burdick, 46, was also hit by Depew’s automobile. According to Worcester Police, the accident occurred shortly before 7:00pm near 128 Lincoln Street in Worcester.
Gina and George Burdick were unloading groceries from their car, when Depew’s sedan collided with them, dragging Gina down the street. Gina was pronounced dead at the scene. George was rushed to UMass Memorial Medical Center, in Worcester, where he remains in critical condition. Depew fled the scene, but was eventually apprehended one hour later, near Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Depew faces several charges, including Driving while intoxicated, vehicular homicide, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. He was arraigned last Wednesday and is being held without bail under the so-called dangerousness statute, which keeps him in custody for 120 days. Depew is due back in court on October 27, 2015.
